Pretty little quilt blocks

I had a lot of fun designing and piecing these quilt blocks for my quilt group friends in Wyoming. It is always so fun to sketch block design ideas and get those creative juices flowing. And seeing them come together is such a joy.

This beautiful autumn colored block is for Betty. The fabric has such pretty flowers and baskets I wanted to show off as much of it as I could.  I kept the design simple and and just added a few colors.

This pink and black block is for a breast cancer quilt that will be raffled off to raise money for the cause. I had this spinner block design I wanted to try out and thought this fabric was a perfect match.

This aqua and brown block is for Sue. The fabrics are so fun aren't they? This one I also made from a block pattern I had saved up.

This pretty green block is for Janis. I didn't really have any coordinating fabric in my stash so I chose to use just the two fabrics sent to me. I thought this simple, yet lovely Irish chain pattern looks just right.

This checkered sunflower block was a bit of a challenge. I was given the black and white checkered fabric and a little yellow for accent. My first thought was a checkered racing flag, LOL. I decided not to go down that road. My next thought was sunflowers, of course! I added the purple and green from my stash and I LOVE how it turned out!!

I love learning new quilt skills!  I had never made blocks like these before and I enjoyed the adventure. I discovered that a single quilt square is perfect for trying out new techniques. However I also learned that once I try something I want to go on to the next and so when I have to make a bunch of the same block I get a little bored... I think sampler quilts might be my thing.
